Walk
No 1: A short walk around Usk
(2 miles - about 35 minutes) |
This short
walk is ideally suited to those who are short of time or energy and gives
a good impression of the main sights of the lovely town. |
Leave the town square by
the south east corner and proceed along Four Ash Street. Eighty metres
after the bend St
Mary's Church can be visited if so desired. |
| Pass the former
Greyhound Inn (now a house) and continue on Chepstow Road. After a few minutes climb a metal gate on the left (40 metres before a red brick house on the right) and cross the field on the obvious path. |
Cross a stile and climb
the bank to the main road. |
| Turn right at
The Three Salmons Hotel. Take the path via the kissing gate on the left, immediately after the entrance to the Veterinary Centre. Follow the riverbank path ("Conigar Walk") to join the road at the end of the bridge. (See a photo of a commemorative plaque giving the history of the bridge and another explaining the origin of "Conigar Walk".) Cross over the main road and go down New Market Street. |
Turn left at the bottom and immediately right into Mill Street. Turn left at
the bottom and left again on to the main road (Maryport Street). (In Summer
the large garden directly opposite ("Courtlands") has a splendid
display.) |
